My Thoughts On The First Half Of "Phineas And Ferb" Season Five
The first ten episodes of the long awaited fifth season of "Phineas And Ferb" were released on Disney + yesterday. Below are my thoughts on what I saw.
- Having the events of the first episode ("Summer Block Buster") lead directly into the second ("Cloudy With A Chance Of Mom") is something the series has never done before, and I love it.
- Candace uses a Whack-A-Pest in the show's opening so of course she would be the one to operate it during the search for their mom.
- The titular song from "Submarine Sandwich Submarine" is really catchy.
- I have to admit, I thought Candace getting her driver's license at the end of "License To Bust" would turn out to be a dream and was surprised when it turned out not to be.
- After having not been seen since Season Three's "Monster From The Id", the talking zebra that calls Candace "Kevin" makes his return in "Dry Another Day".
- The song "No One Understands Me" from "Deconstructing Doof" is really sad when you think about it.
- The giant zoetrope from "Tropey McTropeFace" was originally going to be used during Season Four, but the episode it was going to be used in ("Bad Deal") was rejected by Disney.
- "Biblio-Blast" marks at least the third time that Lawrence has seen the boys' big idea without Linda seeing it as well. The first was the monster truck in "It's A Mud, Mud, Mud, Mud World" and the second was the flying carpet in "Magic Carpet Ride".
- Dr. Doofenshmirtz once again not being able to recognize Perry without his hat in "A Chip To The Vet" will never get old.
- It was nice seeing Carl finally sticking up for himself in "More Than An Intern".
- Despite the episode being called "The Aurora Perry-Alis", there are no steamed ham references in the episode. ("Aurora Perry-Alis? At this time of year? In this part of the country? Localized entirely within the Tri-State area?")
- "Watch It Burn" from "Lord Of The Firesides" may be the best Fireside Girls song ever.
- One of the Candace suits coming to life at the end of "The Candace Suit" sets up the possibly of the episode getting a sequel. And, of course, it is getting one. The episode in question, titled "Attack Of The Candace Suit", will premiere on Disney Channel on July 19.
- Of the episodes that had been announced, "Agent T (For Teen)" was probably the one I was most excited to see due to the episode continuing the "Perry/Stacy" storyline that began during Season Four's "Happy Birthday Isabella", and I have to say that the episode definitely lived up to the hype. I hope we get to see more interactions between Perry and Stacy in the future.
- "The Haberdasher" bringing back the "If I had a nickel" gag from "Phineas's Birthday Clip-O-Rama" and "Across The 2nd Dimension" was really cool. And yes, $5.20 in nickels really would equal 104.
- It took sixteen episodes but we finally get our first "Milo Murphy's Law" reference of the season in "Out Of Character".
- "Meap Me In St. Louis" may the weakest of the Meap episodes so far. It's not a bad episode by any means but I don't think it lived up to the hype.
- Only Phineas and Ferb could make a song titled "Stabby Barf Pain" sound cool.
- "Wait, wasn't that Suzy stuff supposed to be in this one?" I have a feeling we'll be waiting for Suzy and Meap's fight as long as Buford has been waiting for his bread bowl hot tub.
- Vanessa staying over at the Flynn-Fletcher house in "No Slumber Party" brings up an interesting question. Does she know about Perry's double life? We know she got accepted into O.W.C.A.'s internship program at the end of Season Four, so she might know about it, but it's never been brought up since.
- The titular character from "The Ballad Of Bubba Doof" could make a good recurring antagonist.
