Throwback: Ken Jennings' 74-Game Streak Ends | Final Jeopardy! | JEOPARDY!

Image
It was twenty years ago today that Jeopardy fans witnessed what may be the game show's most iconic moment. On November 30, 2004, Ken Jennings saw his record 74 game wining streak end against Nancy Zerg after failing to respond correctly in Final Jeopardy. The Final Jeopardy clue, whose category was "Business & Industry", read "Most of this firm's 70,000 seasonal white-collars employees work only 4 months a year". Zerg, who had $10,000 going into Final Jeopardy,  gave the correct response of "What is H&R Block?" and wagered $4,401, giving her a one dollar lead over Jennings. Ken gave an incorrect response of "What is Fed Ex?" and lost $5,601 (the minimum amount necessary to cover an all-or-nothing wager by Zerg), leaving him with $8,799 for that day.      A clip of this iconic moment can be seen below.

Hallmark Channel Featured On Jeopardy

Image
During Thursday December 21st's episode of "Jeopardy", the third of three semifinal games in the most recent edition of the Second Chance Tournament,  one of the categories was titled "A Very Hallmark Christmas Movie". To the best of my knowledge, this is the first time that Hallmark Channel has been featured as a Jeopardy category. The episode's contestants (Michael Vaz, Karen Morris and Iris Masucci) would combined to correctly answer four of the five questions, missing only the $1,000 clue. (When playing along at home, I only missed the $800). Iris would go on to win the game by exactly one dollar ($5,400) over Karen ($5,3999) and advance to tonight's Second Chance Tournament Finals.  Below is a clip from Jeopardy's "A Very Hallmark Christmas Movie" Category from the official Jeopardy YouTube page.

Top Ten Jeopardy Contestants Of All Time

Today, March 30th, marks 59 years since the popular game show Jeopardy first premiered on NBC. To celebrate the milestone, I have decided to rank the show's ten greatest contestants based on my own rankings formula. In order to get each player's final rating, I multiplied the total number of games that each player has competed in on Jeopardy (both regular season and tournament games) by the number of clues per game (61). I then took that number and multiplied it by what the J-Archive (arguably the largest collection of Jeopardy memorabilia on the internet) refers to as the contestant's "batting average"-that is, the average percentage of correct responses given by the contestant relative to the total possible responses during that contestant's games. This gave each player their final rating. So, without further ado, here are the Top Ten Jeopardy Contestants Of All Time. Update: In the fifteen months have that passed since these rankings were first published, ...
