Hallmark Channel Makes History On Latest Episode Of "The Way Home"
During the most recent episode of "The Way Home" that premiered this past Sunday February 4, there was one scene in particular that stood out. While Kat Landry (Chyler Leigh) is looking through the archives at the Port Haven Herald, she is greeted by someone named Casey Goodwin (Vaughan Murrae). In a historical scene for Hallmark Channel, Kat identifies Casey as the granddaughter of Evelyn Goodwin, the woman who left the Herald to her, only to have Casey correct her and state that she is actually Evelyn's grandchild and uses "they/them". In doing so, Casey may have become the first openly non-binary character in a Hallmark Channel series or movie. This is just the latest in a series of LGBT-related firsts for Hallmark Channel. In 2020, we got our first same-sex wedding ("Wedding Every Weekend") and our first Christmas film with an openly gay couple ("The Christmas House"). In 2021, we got our first same-sex kiss in a Hallmark Chan
