"The Way Home" Season Two Finale Delivers One Shocking Twist And Hints At Another

When we began season two of "The Way Home" back on January 21, we saw a little boy and an old woman standing next to the Landry farm pond. At the time, we assumed the boy was Jacob Landry, the younger brother of Kat Landry who disappeared in 1999. Well, the season two finale, titled "Bring Me To Life", revealed that this wasn't actually the case because the boy we saw in the season premiere wasn't actually Jacob bus his father Colton, with the woman being his grandmother. However, this wasn't even the biggest twist in the season finale involving Colton. If you watched the season premiere, you'll probably remember that during the Landry family's 1999 summer cookout and barbecue, Kat thinks she hears someone in the bushes. While the season finale reveals this to be the present day versions of Alice and Elliot, having gone back in time to give Elliot a chance to get the goodbye with Colton he never had, it's also revealed that someone was watching them as well. In the final minute of the season, we get to see who it was that was watching them-it was Colton and Jacob, presumably having traveled either back or forward in time. This brings up so many questions? Where in time did these versions of Colton and Jacob come from? Are they from the past or the future? We know from season one that Jacob disappeared in October 1999 and Colton died in February 2000, so assuming this barbecue takes place at the beginning of summer break (i.e., May 1999), that gives us about a five month window with which the time traveling versions of Colton and Jacob could exist, assuming that both jumped into the pond at the same time.

In addition to the twist involving Colton Landry, we may have another potential twist involving Kat's intern Casey Goodwin. Introduced in the season's third episode, Casey, who is nonbinary, introduced themselves as the grandchild of Evelyn Goodwin, the recently deceased owner of the town's newspaper, the Port Haven Herald. Well, the season finale may have revealed that Casey might not have been entirely honest about their identity as Alice noticed that Casey was wearing a ring that looked identical to Kat's engagement ring. Fans of the series apparently noticed this as well, leading some to theorize that Casey is actually Alice's child from the future. Could this theory be true? We will have to wait until Season Three premieres next year to find out.
