Author's Note: This article contains spoilers for "Only Murders In The Building" Season 3, Episode 4 "The White Room".  Please do not read any further if you have not seen the episode yet.             The latest episode in Hulu's hit murder-mystery series "Only Murders In The Building" premiered this morning. The episode, titled "The White Room", revolved around Charles Haden Savage (Steve Martin) struggling to remember the words to a song that Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) has written for his musical "Death Rattle Dazzle" while at the same time dealing with having his new girlfriend Joy (Andrea Martin) move in with him-apparently along with sixty-two fish that Joy owns. Meanwhile, Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) is attempting to find a new place to live due to the impending end of her lease-and is contacted by a familiar face.      We begin the episode with narration by Cinda Canning (Tina Fey), the rival podcaster whose former as

The first episode, titled "The Show Must...", begins in 1962 where we see a young girl watching a Broadway production on stage and expressing her own dreams about getting to be on Broadway someday. The episode then progresses to the present day, where we see that same woman is Loretta Durkin (Meryl Streep), an actress who has a role in "Death Rattle", the newest Broadway production by Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), one third of our favorite podcasting/sleuthing trio.     We then cut to the present day where, picking right up where Season Two left off, Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd) is taken away by ambula

Getting Caught Up On The First Two Seasons Of "Only Murders In The Building"

Please do not read any further if you have not seen the first two seasons and do not wish to have them spoiled for you. This Tuesday August 8, the third season of "Only Murders In The Building" is set to premiere on Hulu. The series, which stars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez, revolved around a trio of residents at The Arconia, an apartment building in New York City, who decide to start a true crime podcast centered on murders that take place in said building-hence the name of their podcast (and the series), "Only Murders In The Building". The first season revolves around the murder of Tim Kono (Julian Cihi), a resident of the Arconia and, along with Mabel Mora (Gomez), Oscar Torres (Aaron Dominguez) and Zoe Cassidy (Olivia Reis), a member of the Hardy Boys, a group of teenagers who lived at the Arconia but fell apa

A "Jacks And Shawl" Streaming Guide

Today, July 26, 2023, marks two years since the official Hallmark Channel podcast, The Bubbly Sesh, ended its run after two years. All Of Andrea Brooks' Hallmark Movies Ranked

This Friday July 21 at 9 PM ET, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries will have the world television premiere of "A Lifelong Love". To celebrate the premiere, I have decided to rank all of the previous Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries films of its lead actress, Andrea Brooks. Each movie's rating was derived using the same formula from my previous rankings; that is, each movie's rating on the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) was multiplied by its average viewers per one million.     Author's Note: This list does not include any of the "When Calls The Heart" holiday films, as those are considered part of the series. 1. Jingle Around The Clock Premiere Date: December 22, 2018 My Rating: 22.11 IMDB Summary: "Elle's plans for Christmas are thwarted by work. How Much Would It Cost For These Networks And Studios To Pay Their Employees A Living Wage?

Unless you have spent the last two months living under a rock, you are no doubt aware of the ongoing strikes with the Writers Guild Association (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA). Both companies are in a dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) over revenue from streaming residuals, among other things.     The AMPTP represent over 350 American film and television companies, but this article focuses on five major studios (ViacomCBS, Sony, Universal, Walt Disney and Warner Brothers) and three major streaming services (Amazon, Apple TV+ and Netflix) and how much it would cost each of these companies to pay their employees a living wage, i.e. the minimum wage necessary for an average employee to live off of without having to rely on either government assistance or a second job. To figure this out, I first had to determine where each company's primary headquarters was located. N

Why This One Scene From "Take Me Back For Christmas" Hit Home For Me

Tonight, Hallmark Channel had the world television premiere of "Take Me Back For Christmas". The film , which stars Vanessa Lengies and Corey Sevier, is about a woman named Renee (Lengies) who after being given a Christmas bell by a mysterious woman named Cici (Kimberly-Ann Truong), wishes for her life to be different. She wakes up the next morning to find out that she is no longer married to her husband, Aaron (Sevier), that she is the CEO of her own company-and, most shocking of all, that her mother, Maria (Paula Boudreau) who had passed away a while back of an unspecified illness, is suddenly alive again.      As the film progresses, Renee tries to find a way to get her and Aaron back together.     She and Aaron start to bond over their shared love of cooking and ice hockey. It looks like her plan to get back together with Aaron is going to work-until she learns that she has unwittingly agreed to move to London to take over her company's new European office.

AI Will Never Duplicate These Emotionally Powerful Hallmark Channel Moments

Elizabeth Thornton finding out that her husband Jack has died on "When Calls The Heart". Phoebe Amidon being reunited with her mother at the end of "Signed, Sealed, Delivered: The Impossible Dream". Kat Landry realizing that she was responsible for her father's death on "The Way Home". These are just some of the many emotionally powerful moments that Hallmark Channel has given us over the years-and the reason they were able to make us feel the way they did is because they were written and performed by real people. Erin Krakow (Elizabeth), Megan Charpentier (Phoebe) and Chyler Leigh (Kat) are all real people who easily gave their best performances from their respective roles in these scenes. The people responsible for writing these scenes (Brian Bird, Michael Landon Jr. and Elizabeth Stewart on "When Calls The Heart"; Martha Williamson and Brandi Harkonen on "Signed, Sealed, Delivered"; and Tally Knoll, Marly Reed and Heather Co

SAG-AFTRA Set To Go On Strike on Friday

Today, the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) voted to begin striking tomorrow at 12:00 midnight PDT (3:00 AM EDT). The strike, along with the ongoing Writers Guild Association (WGA) strike, is over a dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) over residuals from streaming services as well as the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in both screenwriting and acting, among other issues. I will post a link to the official SAG-AFTRA strike website, which should explain everything you need to know about the strike, below.  https://www.sagaftrastrike.org/ Sources https://www.theverge.com/2023/7/13/23794224/sag-aftra-actors-strike-ai-image-rights https://www.reuters.com/world/us/hollywood-actors-union-sets-strike-vote-thursday-talks-break-down-2023-07-13/ https://deadline.com/2023/07/actors-strike-contract-talks-fail-sag-aftra-to-launch-pickets-1235436031/ https://deadline.com/2023/07/actors-strike-sag

Addressing Hallmark Channel's "Blind" Spot

Yesterday, it was announced that Sarah Drew ("Christmas In Vienna", "One Summer") would be portraying the titular character in an upcoming Hallmark Movies & Mysteries film "Guiding Emily". The movie, which is set to premiere on Friday September 8 at 9/8 Central, revolves around the titular Emily, who becomes blind following a rock-climbing accident. While Hallmark Channel has made tremendous strides when it comes to representation in the disabled community (For example, "The Christmas Bow" features a disabled character named Tess, played by real life Charcot-Marie-Tooth patient Joy Perry, and movies like "Our Christmas Journey" and "Color My World With Love" feature autistic actors and actors with Down Syndrome in prominent roles), one area that the network is still lagging behind in when it comes to authentic representation in the disabled community is blind or visually impaired actors. By my count, Emily will be at

Review-"Little Town"

Image
On Saturday June 17, 2023, I had the privilege of attending a screening of "Little Town", an independent film directed by Dani Menkin and starring Jason Paul Field, Crystal St. John and Grant Stevens. The movie follows Jason ( Field), his son Tommy (Stevens) and their new friend Lauren (St. John) as they make the journey to the titular location of Little Town.     When the movie begins, Jason is an aspiring stand-up comic who has been living alone with his son Tommy ever since his wife passed away an  unspecified time ago. He has never told Tommy the truth about what happened to his mother, only telling them that she was "up in the sky", which Tommy believes means that she is living on top of a mountain in  a place called "Little Town", an ostensibly mythical place that Jason has told his son stories about.      One day while Jason is sitting in his car, a young woman (St. John) suddenly gets in and asks him to drive, though she doesn't spec

"Love, Romance & Chocolate" Is Fans' Favorite Lacey Chabert Hallmark Movie

Image
Last week, I asked fans on social media to respond to a survey asking them to pick their favorite Lacey Chabert movie in anticipation of tonight's premiere of "The Dancing Detective: A Deadly Tango". After more than a week, the poll has been closed and the winner, with 66.7 percent of the vote, was 2019's "Love, Romance & Chocolate". "Christmas In Rome" and "Haul Out The Holly" each received 33.33 % of the vote (Fans had the option of choosing more than one movie) and were the only other films on the list to receive any votes.  I will provide a copy of the final results below. Watch both my Instagram page (instagram.com/ukweseversole) and my Twitter page (twitter.com/wesths05) tomorrow for my next poll.
